Better Homes and Garden’s Shoot and Hot Chocolate Bar
 
A couple of months ago we got an e-mail from Better Homes and Gardens asking if we would be interested in having our home photographed for their Christmas Ideas Issue. It seemed too good to be true and to be honest I kept thinking it might fall through but the last two days we had a stylist from Better Homes and Gardens here and today we had a photographer and a second stylist here as well! It was so exciting getting to watch such talented people work their magic and they were incredibly sweet and easy going and so wonderful with the girls. I had feared that Lillie would not want to have her photo taken when it was time but instead she hopped right up in her window seat and smiled and posed and did everything the photographer asked – he was so good with her! At one point she even had him sliding down our stairs “on his bum-bum” like her and he pushed her around on his cart once he was done! I can’t thank them enough for making it such an easy and enjoyable experience. Now for the hard part – we have to wait 8 or 9 months for the magazine to come out!
Now that it is over, I have to say I am exhausted. It has been so crazy trying to get everything finished up in time. Once they left yesterday I started taking down all of the Christmas decorations. I am just about done and then I can start figuring out what to do to fill all the bare holes. In some ways it is such a good feeling to have it all down and to get everything clean and organized but it also does make all of the rooms seem so empty and cold now.
I didn’t take any photos while they were here yesterday but I did take some photos last week of the hot cocoa station I added in our dining room.

Congratulations Jen, the magazine will be so fun to read in 8 months time~everyone else in blogland was saying the same thing you were about their houses having empty spots and seemingly bare~so we have all been through it as well, you are just one month behind! Take a break, I know I needed one after I was done with all the Christmas decorating and deconstruction, but I am back in the saddle again!

  37. ohhhh Jenni! I'm thrilled for you! Congratulations!!! How exciting! I'm thinking Miss Lillie is destined to be a model, and you need to get her an agent;)! What a cutie-pie to pose at directed, so sweet!

    I've been meaning to write, and seeing your cups comes as perfect timing! I was saving our Burdick hot chocolate for a special day and we just enjoyed our first cups a few days ago to celebrate our snow! It was 'amazing'!!! I have already used the little whisk that came with it in the kitchen and don't know how I ever lived without it;)
    We just got home from "Starrs Hollow";) and had Mexican on the oval looking out at the gazebo! Thought of you;)

    1. Haha! Don't give Lillie any ideas or she will probably start charging me for any photos I take of her! Or trying to wheel-and-deal for "prizes". I kept thinking of you and your photoshoot when they were here and all of the little tricks you had mentioned in your blog post that they did to get just the right shot.

      I am glad you enjoyed your Burdick's hot chocolate, now it's making me want some… and I am jealous of the snow! Well, not the shoveling part of the freezing part but just seeing how beautiful it all looks.

  48. Love the hot chocolate bar…what are the items that you like to include on the bar…also, do you have a delicious hot choc. recipe you can share?

    1. Thanks, Diane! I've got two types of hot cocoa up there, both white and semi-sweet chocolate chips, and marshmallows. Unfortunately I don't have any special recipes, just good ol' cocoa mix and milk 🙂
